the editor

Back in the second edition of this, er, blog, I posted the contract that we’ll be using for Costs of Living. I haven’t gotten any feedback, but I’m always curious to hear from various perspectives, and I welcome your experience and expertise alike.

I’ve used that contract twice in offers to the first two contributing authors identified out of the 150 or so submissions. They’ve accepted, thankfully, and it feels good to know: “This is going in the book.”

The mission now is to read over the other submissions that are in the “additional review” folder (that’s everything that hasn’t been rejected in the first filter) and get a feel for what kind of overall picture we can paint together, knowing that we’ve got these two elements in hand.

I’ve emailed the agents of (or contacted directly where I know the person) my favorite horror authors and have invited them to contribute, either on spec or by editorial review. I’ve heard a response that I’m thinking of as a soft yes, one “no,” and one “really busy but I’ll see” response. I’d like to add these folks to help us gain ground in the market, narrow as it is for horror anthologies, and I want specifically to invite people of varied perspectives and cultural backgrounds who can do this market-gaining thing for us, too.

That’s all this time!

Here’s the call for submissions.

Feel free to email me with questions. I’m reachable at editor [at] whisperhousepress [dot] com.
